CANTERBURY JAPAN DAY is back again in 2013 with an expanded venue in Riccarton Park, expecting to welcome approximately 20,000 visitors.
After the successful first Canterbury Japan Day in 2012 which focused on the commemoration of the natural disasters in our two countries, from this year on, they will be themed around the four seasons.
Starting with “Japanese Spring”, the season of new growth, in 2013 the day will feature a significant exhibition of beautiful and sophisticated family doll displays to mark 3 March “Hina-Matsuri Day”- one of the national cultural days in Japan, celebrating the good health of girls. (boys get their turn later!)

Apart from the main theme, CANTERBURY JAPAN DAY 2013 will again showcase a wide range of Japanese culture. At our Indoor venue, you will treat yourself to the sight of elegant flower arrangements, the sounds of Koto performances, the taste of rich traditional green tea brewed on the spot, or the thrill of having your coffee served by a Ninja at the Ninja Cafe!
At the outdoor site, you will immerse yourself into the spirit of Japan that rejoices in festivity, celebration and feast! All day stage performances to entertain and about 50 stalls including crafts and many varieties of Japanese food delicacies which will surely delight and satisfy both eye and stomach. To complete a memorable day of Japan, why not pose for a photo in a kimono costume as a vivid souvenir?
